Finland starts erecting fence on border with Russia

Finland has started the construction of a fence on its border with Russia, as per Euronews.

The media outlet reports that the project will take hundreds of millions of euro and four years to be completed.

The Finnish Border Service proposed to build from 130 to 260 kilometres of fencing on separate sections of the Finno-Russian border that is longer than 1,300 kilometres. It is expected that barriers will appear on the southern sections of the border close to Saint Petersburg.

Turkey's president Recep Erdoğan approved the Turkish parliament's decision on ratifying Finland's NATO membership bid. Turkey was the last member of the alliance to do so. Sauli Niinistö, the President of Finland, signed laws on Finland joining NATO on 23 March.
